I have made a list of a few things you can do to make your hair healthier and grow longer.
1. If you are trying to grow your hair, it is a good idea to cut the split ends. Afterwards, you need to give it oil treatments. Your hair is dry; to help keep split ends from occurring you must soak your hair in warm olive oil. Apply warm olive oil to your hair, adding oil a little at a time until your hair is almost "drippy". Soak it for a few hours or even overnight, wrapping your head in a handkerchief, towel or some kind of veil (this keeps the oil from getting on your linens), and then wash your hair in the morning. You can also do this treatment on a day when you are home all day and then wash before you go to bed. I would do this treatment once a week until your hair stops soaking up the oil quite as much, and then you can bump it down to once a month.
2. You should try to brush your hair 100 strokes a day bringing the natural oils in your scalp to the dry ends. The best kind of brush is an old fashioned boar bristle brush. This kind of brush does not rip your hair and it carries the oils better than any other kind of brush.
(Boar bristle brushes can be found in many stores that carry hair products.)
3. Shampoo has a major part to play in hair health as well. It is best not to wash your hair in anything containing “sodium laureth sulphate“. This will include most shampoos available at a department store. There are many sites on the internet that sell soaps and shampoos without this dangerous chemical in it. You can read more about this on headcoverings.com under hair care. If you can't buy anything without this chemical, just give your hair extra oil treatments. It is difficult to find the right product, some of the more expensive shampoos still have the chemical but have other ingredients that help.
4. If you keep your hair in a bun, it will help keep it from getting very dry, because it is next to your scalp. Also, if you are going to be out in the bright sun for a few hours, you should wear a hat or some kind of covering to protect it.
5. If you feel like Yahweh wants you to cover your hair, there are many styles to choose from. I have worn the Mennonite cap, the scarf and the snood. I have found that the snood is the most comfortable and stays on the best. I have wanted to try the bible- time veil but have not found one yet; however a shawl wrapped around your head and tied at the back resembles one - just place combs inside at the top to help keep it on.
If you are just going to wear your hair up, it is very easy to make a secure bun for even the longest hair. I have found that the hair pins these days are not the best, the ends always comes off and then it pulls and rips my hairs when I take them out. For my hair, little claws work the best, they hold really well and they don’t pull, unless I get in a hurry.
If you are going to wear it down, just remember that a lot of wind and sun dries it out, so you might want to remember your olive oil treatments and do them once a week.
Good luck taking care of your glory! |
